Many Orphans 

     There are many reasons for the high number of orphans in Tanzania. One contributing factor, sadly, is the death of parents and guardians due to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Another contributing factor is the challenging impact of tribalism and its unique cultural influences. A third contributing factor is the high poverty level. Tanzania is considered one of the poorest countries in the world with more than two-thirds of the population living below the internationally recognized income poverty line of USD 1.25 per day.   

Making a Difference 

     Sonshine Ministries of Tanzania has a moto that "one person can make a difference". This truth is painted on a gate wall to be a reminder and encouragement to all who come and go to and from the childrens home in King'ori. The shared passion to make a daily difference is seen in the children, staff, volunteers, board members, donors, and our closest partners.  

     The most passionate request for Sonshine to help more children came directly from the Sonshine children themselves. When asked what Sonshine could do more to help them, the children were quick to share "Please bring in more children!"

The cost of full care for a child is $2,700 per year.  This amount includes the annual cost of home care of $1,934 plus the annual cost of $766 for schooling. (Calculated monthly, the full care cost is only $225 per child per month.)
