A Future and A Hope

From his home in Jerusalem, Jeremiah the prophet sent a letter to his fellow countrymen held in captivity in Babylon. In this letter, Jeremiah wrote down the beautiful, eternal words spoken by God to the captives, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope”. (Jer 29:11) The mission of Sonshine is to rescue children from the captivity of abuse, abandonment, and despairing poverty, lovingly guide them to God’s perfect peace, and to give them a future and a hope as Godly, world-changing leaders in the communities they serve.

To witness the divine transformation as it occurs is incredible. Eyes that once conveyed there is no hope and faces that gave an expression of the possibility of there being no tomorrow are miraculously transformed within the gates of Sonshine by the living hope that only breaks forth through their saving faith in Jesus, and from the continued love and support of amazing partners like you.

A glorious example of this transformation can be seen in the eyes, smile, and face of Ruth (pictured above). She and her siblings were rescued into Sonshine in March 2025. They came out of unbelievable poverty that cannot be described in this article. With Sonshine love, the deep trauma experienced by Ruth and her sister and brothers is being lifted, hope is pouring forth, and smiles of joy are lighting up rooms. A few months after being at Sonshine, Ruth was asked by a Social Worker staff member what she liked best about her new home. Before commenting about meeting new children and being able to play music in worship services, she said that her favorite thing was to stare at the "blessing board" in the chapel and gaze upon all the photos of sponsors and donors that love and support Sonshine. She said this gives her so much joy to knowing so many people care so much about her and the Sonshine family. Ruth is blessed to have wonderful sponsors. This loving, personal sponsorship boosts Ruth's hope and joy even further.

Thank you to the generous donors who helped Sonshine reach its goal to raise funds for the interior painting of the pavilion. Completing the inside of the pavilion will be a great step forward because Sonshine will be able to begin the move of the equipment in the chapel room to the pavilion and begin preparing rooms to rescue more children. The potential of the new pavilion building is big, requiring big steps and big funds.

Key next steps to finish the pavilion

Paint exterior of the building (We are $1200 shy from needed funds)
Finish interior floor with sand and cement
Begin grounds improvements for pavers and parking
Build nice bathroom building to accommodate guests
