Serving Others Freely

It is a joy to watch the Sonshine children care and share with one another. The stories of selfless service are inspiring. When new children come into Sonshine, the existing children are often quick to help. "Here. Take mine. I have some extra clothing." Or "That's okay. I can share what I have with you." The sharing is not just items like clothing or possessions; it includes time and teaching others.

Seeing Biblical principles lived out each day at Sonshine per the original vision and through the support and prayers of partners is incredible.

  • "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or empty pride, but in humility consider others more important than yourselves." (Phil 2:3)
  • "Freely you have received; freely give." (Matt 10:8b)

College Greetings (Happy, Jasmin, and Maggie)

"Hello, I am Happy. My college,

TICD - Tengeru Insitute of Community Development, is so nice. Also, people are nice because I am nice to them. I have a lot of friends to help me whenever I need help. We share ideas together. I am studying Social Work so that I can someday work at Sonshine."

"I’m Jasmin. College is great, people are friendly, and teachers are also friendly. Sometimes things can get difficult, like when our classes are at night and transportation is not easy. God is guiding me in my journey, and I know that I will reach a safe end. I attend St. Augustine University of Tanzania and, I am studying to be an accountant.

“Hello everyone. I am Maggie, a future Hospitality Management professional. My college, Moshi Institute of Technology, is good. I thank God that I am doing well in my hotel courses. There is great cooperation between students and the teachers. Beginning In July, I will have an opportunity to work in the field. P.S. It have a nice, short break of 2 weeks.😊"

What's Growing in Our Garden?

From its inception, Sonshine has aimed for the greatest self-sufficiency possible via gardening, farming, and animal management. The Tanzanian government requires children's homes to achieve and maintain a minimum of 30% self-sufficiency due to the instability of the economy and the importance of keeping, cared-for children safe and protected. We continue to make great progress towards achieving this important goal. Your prayerful support has been very helpful. Here are several photos of some of God's bountiful blessings to Sonshine.

😁No. Cows are not grown in the garden! However, they sure like the garden. Sonshine now has 12 cattle. We've also been looking into adding goats and chickens. Donations to Sonshine's Special Fund can help expand our animal management practices and boost our self-sufficiency.

Clean Living

Say Hello to Caregiver Frida Kivuyo. She has been at Sonshine for 7 years, starting in December 2018. With her arrival came a heart of love and a tireless passion and skill for cleaning and laundry. With Frida, the kids feel so loved and live joyfully in a beautifully clean environment. It is a great blessing to have a team member who strives for creating and maintaining a tidy, clean, safe, and hygienic home for the children to grow, coworkers to work, and guests to visit. The instructions of Jesus from Matthew 7:12 are a good example of Frida, "So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you,"

From The Heart

Frida answers the question "What is your favorite thing about Sonshine?":

"The Children! I love them very much! I love serving them!"

The need continues for critical funding

Newsletter

Thank You to those who are now sponsoring some of the new children who joined Sonshine at the beginning of the year. Your kindness and generosity are celebrated everyday by the children, team members, and supporters. The need to make rapid progress on rebuilding the collapsed pavilion continues. The rebuild will allow us to bring in 16 more children. For an update on our laundry area project, please click here. We're making good progress. (The extra sinks and work area will be very helpful.) And, as requested in past newsletters, can you forward this newsletter to your family, friends, and acquaintances to share the news about Sonshine?
